Privacy policy

Last updated: August 16, 2026

At Carissima, we believe transparency isn't just about what's inside our sofas — it's about how we treat your information, too. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your personal information whenever you interact with us: in our stores, on www.carissima.ca (whether you're on your phone or your computer), when you make a purchase online, or in any other way you connect with us. We take your privacy seriously, and this Policy is here to help you understand our practices and know your rights.

Throughout this Policy, “you,” “your,” and “yours” refer to the individual whose personal information we collect or process. “We,” “us,” and “our” refer to Carissima. The masculine form is used solely to keep the text simple.

1 — What counts as personal information?

We use the definition of “personal information” set out in applicable Canadian privacy laws: any information about an identifiable individual, including anything that — alone or combined with other information — could identify, contact, or locate you. Information that's been fully anonymized, with all direct and indirect identifiers removed, doesn't count as personal information.

2 — What personal information do we collect?

We may collect, use, store, and transfer the following categories of information:

  • Customer information: your first name, last name, email, phone number, and address.
  • Transaction information: your purchase history and shipping details.
  • Combined information: your personal and transaction data, together.
  • Technical information: cookies, behavioural data (like your browsing history, search history, chat history, and how you interact with our website and ads), unique identifiers, IP address, and location data.
  • Financial (sensitive) information: credit card details and transaction specifics (amount, order number, billing information, etc.).

If you work with us or apply for a job at Carissima, we may also collect:

  • Background information: criminal record checks and copies of identification documents.
  • Emergency information: emergency contact details, health status, and allergies.
  • Identity information: date of birth, education history, home address, and documentation confirming your right to work in Canada.
  • Technical information: your username(s), login history (successful and failed attempts) on Carissima systems, your location when using our systems, and details about the device you use to access our resources.

If you share someone else's personal information with us — a family member, for example — you confirm that you've obtained their consent for us to collect, use, and disclose it for the purposes described in this Policy.

By giving us your personal information, emailing us, or visiting our website, you're communicating with us electronically. You consent to receive non-commercial electronic communications from us — by internet, email, SMS, or notices on our website — in line with this Policy. Where the law requires certain communications to be in writing, electronic communication satisfies that requirement.

3 — How do we collect your personal information?

We collect your information in a few different ways:

a) Directly from you. This happens when you interact with us, such as:

  • Subscribing to our newsletter through a form on our website.
  • Filling out a contact or inquiry form — we'll ask for your name, phone number (optional), and email address.
  • Completing a purchase — we collect your first and last name (and company name, if applicable), delivery address (province, city, postal code, country), email, and phone number. A company name is welcome but never required. Choosing in-store pickup? We'll also need the name of whoever is picking up the order.
  • Making a payment — we ask for your credit card number, CVV, and expiry date, plus a billing address if it's different from your delivery address. The same applies if you pay through Fairstone Financial.
  • Applying for a job through our website — we'll ask for your name, address, city, email, and phone or mobile number, along with your resume, which may include your professional history and other personal details.
  • Creating an account — you'll provide your name, email, and password. From there, you can add optional billing and default delivery addresses, and manage them anytime, along with your product reviews and wish list.
  • Reaching out to us any other way, for any other reason.

Submitting false identity information on our website isn't permitted. Any request must be made under your real name, with accurate supporting details.

b) Indirectly. Sometimes we receive your personal information through service providers you also do business with — for instance, when a recruitment agency forwards your job application, or a third party shares your contact and identity information with us for marketing purposes. Any indirect collection follows this Policy, the relevant service provider's own privacy policy, and applicable law.

c) Automatically. When you browse our website, we automatically collect technical and browsing information about the device you're using and how you interact with our site, through cookies, pixels, server logs, and similar technologies. We may also receive technical information about you if you visit third-party sites that use our cookies.

4 — Why do we collect and use your personal information?

We use your information for the purposes we collected it for, in line with this Policy, other purposes allowed by law, or with your consent. That includes:

  • Responding to you when you reach out — through our “Send a request” form or otherwise — about our products and services.
  • Sending our newsletter, if you've subscribed.
  • Processing your online purchases, including payment and financing (such as managing Fairstone Financial requests).
  • Keeping you updated by email or SMS about delivery and tracking for your purchases.
  • Letting you know about promotions, sales, events, and new products by email or SMS. This can include reminders about items left in your cart, or restocked items you were waiting for.
  • Running contests or surveys you take part in.
  • Processing your job application submitted through our website.
  • Setting up and managing your account with us.
  • Recognizing when you share our products or website on social media.
  • Helping you navigate our website smoothly — more detail is in our Cookie Policy.

This list isn't exhaustive — we may process your information for other legitimate reasons too, like keeping your transactions and our website secure, preventing fraud, or training purposes.

As explained in section 10(e), you can always opt out of promotional communications from us.

5 — Who has access to your personal information?

Internally, access works on a need-to-know basis — our team only sees your personal information when it's necessary to do their job. For external access, see the next section.

6 — Who do we share your personal information with?

Outside of what's described below, we don't share your personal information with third parties without your consent, unless the law requires or allows it. We never sell your personal information — full stop. Every third party we work with is required to protect your information and handle it in line with the law. We don't let our service providers use your information for their own purposes; they can only process it for the specific reasons we've instructed, in line with this Policy.

These third parties fall into the following categories:

  • Delivery partners, so your order reaches the right address.
  • Financial partners and payment processors who handle your banking data on our website — all of them meet the PCI DSS standard for card security.
  • Advertising partners, including our advertising agency and customer management software.
  • Service providers who help us achieve the purposes your information was collected for, including the hosting providers who store it securely.
  • Providers who help us understand our website visitors and job applicants through demographic research.
  • Law enforcement or government agencies, if needed for an investigation into fraud, a legal or regulatory violation, or a breach of our website terms — or to protect the rights, property, or safety of Carissima, our customers, or our partners.
  • An acquiring party, if Carissima is involved in a business transaction — a sale, merger, financing, liquidation, or similar — in whole or in part. Any such party would continue to handle your information under this Policy.

7 — How do we store and protect your personal information?

Protecting your information matters to us, so we've put technical, organizational, and administrative safeguards in place to guard against unauthorized access, loss, theft, or changes to your data. We use physical safeguards to control access to our systems, and encryption technologies like TLS and HTTPS to secure the connection between your device and ours.

Your information is stored on secure servers located in Canada, whether ours or our service providers', with appropriate protections in place.

That said, no system is completely risk-free, and we can't guarantee absolute security. Any information you send us is transmitted at your own risk. If you think your personal information has been compromised, contact us right away using the details below.

8 — How long do we keep your personal information?

We only keep your information as long as we need it for the purposes we collected it for — including any legal, accounting, or reporting obligations. To decide how long that is, we weigh the amount, nature, and sensitivity of the information, the potential harm from unauthorized use or disclosure, why we're processing it, and whether we could achieve the same purpose some other way.

9 — Children under 14

Protecting children's privacy matters to us. Carissima doesn't knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 14, and our website isn't intended for children under that age.

If you're under 14, please don't use our website or provide any personal information — including your name, address, phone number, or email — through any of its features. If we discover we've collected information from a child under 14 without verified parental consent, we'll delete it.

10 — Your rights over your personal information

Subject to legal exceptions, you have the following rights over the personal information we hold:

a) Right of access

You can ask to see the personal information we hold about you, along with a general account of how we use it. Once we receive your written request, we'll confirm whether we're processing your information and, subject to applicable exemptions, give you a copy. In some limited cases — like when the information also concerns someone else — we may not be able to share everything. We aim to respond within a month; if your request is especially complex or you've made several requests, it may take longer, and we'll keep you updated. Additional copies may come with a reasonable fee.

b) Right to correction

If information we hold about you is inaccurate or incomplete, you can ask us to fix it. You can also add written comments to your file. Where we've shared corrected information with others, we'll notify them where possible and reasonable. On request, and where legally possible, we'll tell you who we've shared your information with so you can follow up directly. If you have an account with us, you can update most of your information yourself, anytime.

c) Right to control how your information is shared

You can ask us to de-index — remove from search results — any link tied to your name that gives access to your personal information, if sharing it breaks the law or a court order, or causes serious harm to your reputation or privacy. You can also ask us to re-index a link if doing so would help prevent that kind of harm.

Reach out anytime if you'd like help modifying, updating, or deleting information you've shared with us — we aim to handle these requests promptly.

d) Right to erasure

You can ask us to delete your personal information in certain situations — for example, if we no longer need it for the purpose we collected it for, or if you withdraw consent (where consent is our legal basis for processing it). Where we've shared your information with third parties, we'll take reasonable steps to let them know, where possible. On request, and where legally possible, we'll tell you who we shared it with. Where we're required to delete your information, we'll confirm it in writing.

e) Right to withdraw consent

Where we rely on your consent to process your information, you can withdraw it anytime — though this won't affect anything we did before you withdrew it. If withdrawing consent means we can no longer offer you certain services (like those in section 4), we'll let you know at the time.

You can unsubscribe from our newsletter by sending a written request to our Privacy Officer (contact details in section 14), or by clicking the unsubscribe link at the bottom of any email. If you have an account, you can also manage your newsletter preferences there directly.

Text STOP to 1 (888) 866-9282 anytime to unsubscribe from Carissima SMS messages. You'll stop receiving texts once we confirm your number has been removed from our database. You can also email affaires@carissima.ca — we'll process these requests as quickly as we can. Please unsubscribe from our texts before changing or deactivating your mobile number.

Data Sharing

  • Customer data is not shared with 3rd parties for promotional or marketing purposes.
  • Mobile opt-in and consent are never shared with anyone for any purpose. Any information sharing that may be mentioned elsewhere in this policy excludes mobile opt-in data.

11 — What is retargeting?

Retargeting uses cookies — like pixels — to understand how you interact with different websites, so we can show you relevant products. We use cookies to track your preferences and activity on our site. By using our website, you consent to our use of cookies, on and off the site. We use them to:

  • Improve your experience and our website's functionality;
  • Personalize the content you see; and
  • Keep your experience secure.

Our Facebook ads are also targeted using demographic and geographic data, and Facebook may re-target you based on products you've shown interest in. Combining Facebook and Google Analytics helps us understand our visitors — including age, gender, preferred language, interests, and location. You consented to this when you signed up with those platforms. By default, only cookies essential to our website's function are enabled — you can choose to enable others, though some site features won't work fully without them. See our Cookie Policy for more.

12 — Links to other websites

Our website sometimes links to other sites — like when you click through to Facebook or YouTube. We don't control those sites and aren't responsible for them just because we've linked to them. Anything you share on a third-party site is subject to that site's own privacy policy.

13 — Changes to this Policy

We may update this Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices, legal requirements, or other reasons. When we do, we'll post the updated version here and update the “Last updated” date at the top. We'd encourage you to check back periodically.

If you keep using our website after we've posted a revised Policy, that means you agree to the changes and to how we'll collect, use, and disclose your information under the updated version.
